Review of Guddu

Guddu (1995)
2/10
A Shahrukh Khan movie which I'm sure he wants to forget.

Guddu is often described as one of Shahrukh Khan's worst movies, and it frankly is. But Khan himself does not really do that bad a job. On the contrary, he is convincing as the young guy who decisively wants to take responsibility for his acts. It is the story that lets everyone, including Khan, down. A very unrealistic story which is hard to believe. The story is about a young lively guy named Guddu and his beautiful girlfriend Salina. One day they have a car accident and consequently Salina loses her sight. Guddu ceaselessly blames himself for her tragedy and later, after being diagnosed with a fatal brain tumour, decides to donate his own eyes to Salina. This creates a conflict between Guddu and his parents. Guddu consists of some very boring sequences and songs, some pathetic proceedings which, as said, lack credibility. Manisha Koirala plays the blind girl well. She is beautiful and her chemistry with Khan is quite good. The two of course would compensate for this awful film with the 1998 classic Dil Se. Deepti Naval tries to give her best as Guddu's mother, but sadly it's not enough to make Guddu a better film. Mukesh Khanna is okay as his father. The film's ending is really laughable. The film unfortunately took itself too seriously considering it did not have much for. Had it not had Shahrukh Khan in it, no one would have remembered or known of its existence.
