Chase is a genius, but Tony Soprano is dead.

Warning: Spoilers
For everyone who watch the last episode and thought that Tony Soprano lived and would be watching over his shoulders for the rest of his life, they are wrong. He was actually shot and killed. In an interview Chase said that everything in the final scene is there for fans to figure out what truly happened to Tony. People just needed to piece things together.

On this website, 'master of sopranos' give you all the details, shot by shot. http://masterofsopranos.wordpress.com/ the-sopranos-definitive-explanation-of-the-end/

Like everyone else, I was confused about the end too. I thought the cable had went out at first. After reading the detail reenactment of the events on this site, it's pretty clear that Tony was shot. My only question concerning the shooting is, "Why didn't Tony hear it before he died?" Even if Paolo Colandrea (Man in Members Jacket who shoots Tony) used a silencer, we should have heard something. Other questions were never answered as well. Who put the hit on him? What would happen to the rest of the family members, especially AJ, who would be next in line?

The way Chase played out the last scene was brilliant. Read the whole article on the site. It's long, but a lot of it makes perfect sense. Still, even if Tony was shot, it can still be questioned whether he died or not. Only Chase knows for sure, but I think this was a perfect ending to the series.
