I watch a fairly substantial amount of films, and I use IMDb on a daily basis, but I finally made an account just to rate and review this movie. I cannot believe I was so misled. This film could not be anymore bland and hackneyed. Yes this review contains spoilers, but I don't think it should matter on the basis that you should by no means partake in the watching of this movie.
The movie began with a tidbit of excitement, hoping that these beginning scenes of violence and "suspense" would pan out to the rest of the movie, I continued to watch. Though the beginning is interesting, the "mystery" of the movie is easily solvable within the first 15 minutes. But they persist in not giving enough detail about what's going on, and continue to show you "horror" scenes of death that anyone who has seen a basic slasher film would be able to foresee.
This movie was not only unable to create a dark and creepy atmosphere, but it was also unable to make me jump. I'm a paranoid movie watcher, I watch at the edge of my seat, and even I was unable to be shaken by this film.
The characters were very forgettable and simply so ignorant and polarized that it was very difficult to tell if this was made by a 16 year old girl, or a professional.
You may be asking why this dud didn't get 1 star from me. There were some redeeming factors to this film. Two scenes in particular. The one where "Jesus' soldier" burns the witch, and the ending. Although I can't say the ending was much of a mind bender, on accounts that I was so relieved the film was over that I didn't much care what happened during the credits, that I was relieved that there was a little more to this film than I had previously conceived.
Although there was a glimmer of greatness in the movie, the rest was just true mediocrity. To conclude, this movie wasn't for me, I do not recommend it. This movie is neither interesting nor scary. But if you truly want to watch it, go ahead and enjoy a textbook example of the declining mainstream horror genre.
