This movie reminds everyone of how good an actor Charles Coburn was. His legacy in films seems to be fading, glad TCM is bringing back films like this one.

Dean Stockwell makes an outstanding child performance in this movie. It is about a boy growing up in a multi-generation family with Grand parents and great grandparents. This is not a normal happening with this time era. It is a great study of what culture and times were in the time the tale is set (1900). Coburn brings off playing a great-grandpa who is more if a drunk than anything else. Still, he brings it in with a style that few actors in that era could.

This is an entertaining film that is very much worth viewing when you can catch it.
