" Of course nuclear power is safe, we have a dozen lawyers who say so "
12 May 2011
In 1979 at the nuclear facility near three mile island, an accident occurred which caused one of the greatest scares of all times in the U.S. Despite the warning of many scientists and environmentalists the plant disregarded it's own safety measures and came near a catastrophe so many had long expected. Despite the artificial assurances of an army of lawyers who defended the plant's safety, the place was shut down. This film is called " The China Syndrome " and mimics the antics of the nuclear power industry and how far they will go to silence any and all opposition. Jack Lemmon stars as Jack Godella a professional nuclear engineer working at the Vantana Nuclear Facility in California, when an internal power surge sends a shudder through the main core, destabilizes and endangering the plant, its employees and surrounding area. Michael Douglas plays Richard Adams a cameraman who secretly films the accident and the fear the staff at the plant exhibits. Jane Fonda plays Kimberly Wells an up and coming TV reporter who wants to expose the accident, when she and Adams are ordered by their station and threatened by the power company to keep silent or face retaliation. What follows is dark drama and exciting actions as each of the principals strive to achieve their purpose. The TV station tries to subvert the truth and the power company using any means to continuing to make money at the cost of a nation they mean to keep ignorant. James Hampton and Wilford Brimley give outstanding performances in this movie of a nuclear disaster which eventually took place in Japan. Highly recommended. ****
