Trust (I) (2010)
6/10
It's so-so, only thanks to some great performances
16 January 2013
The plot - hectic and with unclear point - was probably meant to arouse compassion - but did not, as the girl could have easily avoid the following events: it was no sudden attack on an empty street, forcing into a car etc., just a use of block function would have been enough... Well, the age of 14 is a real minor in the U.S., but in many countries it is the age of consent already. Plus the fact, that the girl was not impracticable either. Anyway, how the things followed were approached and handled by the family, friends and police - were strange and wrong in every way, like bulls in a china shop. The ending is also dull and the final scenes with credits give suspicious hints about teachers in general... Luckily, there are three great performances: Clive Owen as Will Cameron, Liana Liberato as Annie Cameron and Viola Davis as Gail (psychologist); scenes with them are catchy to watch and thanks to them this movie could be praised somehow. If you want to see a real drama with a real victim and her sufferings, I can recommend e.g. The Accused with Judie Foster (Oscar for the role).
