Dream Eater Merry
22 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Outwardly Yumeji Fujiwara is a ordinary high school student but he has an unusual gift; he can predict the nature of the dreams a person will have when they next sleep; he also has rather strange dreams himself. One day a mysterious girl literally falls on him; it turns out that she is a Dream Demon called Merry Nightmare. There is something unusual about her too; dream demons shouldn't be able to enter the real world without a human 'vessel'. Merry wants to get back to the dream world so Yumeji offers to help. It won't be easy though and they will have to confront other less friendly dream demons… something made harder when Merry learns that killing them means killing the dreams of their vessel. One such vessel is Isana Tachibana; a friend of Yumeji's… he is determined that she must not lose her dream of becoming an artist.

This thirteen episode series was rather enjoyable; the characters were good and there weren't too many of them… you are never in any danger of wondering who is who! The frequent dream world sequences are nicely surreal and occasionally creepy but never as frightening as the similar worlds of the better known 'Madoka Magica'; this of course means this can probably be enjoyed by younger viewers. The character designs are good; I especially liked Merry's design even if her coat is a bit strange! Overall this was a good show that fans of the genre should enjoy.
