Intriguing treatment of Greek Mythology!
8 April 2014
Antebellum beautifully draws parallels between the Greek Myth and the Civil War to create a short narrative with depth. The brevity of the film belies the broad scope of the plot line. However, Kelly manages to support the concise script with meaningful visual imagery. The narrative examines the paradox of good and evil from a child's perspective, with the score reinforcing the perspective. What is good without evil? Or do each exist as only opposed to the other? Beautiful cinematography supports the underlying story, with lovely performances by all the cast. Of particular note is the score by Arturo Sandoval. All in all, a very unique treatment of a timeless classic.
