A small honest film with two fantastic performances
20 October 2014
The Skeleton Twins is the kind of film that lives or dies from the lead performances and Wiig and Hader are not only perfectly cast, but do their best work to date. These characters feel lived in by our two leads and they come across honest and real. Remarkable work from these two, especially Hader who drops his usual shtick (which is usually funny) for a genuine performance.

Luke Wilson is fine as Wiig's perpetually happy and simple husband, though his character can sometimes fall into sitcom territory with his goofy charm. The few brief scenes about Wiig's extramarital affairs are too fleeting to really register or care about. On the other hand, the scenes with Ty Burrell as a man with a history with Hader's character are handled with surprising depth and care.

The Skeleton Twins is a small film that goes into some surprisingly dark places, has solid laughs throughout and feels honest. Recommended for sure.
