Truly terrific, this noir gem from France where the always outstanding Olivier Gourmet gives an awesome performance. A social crime movie indeed, telling the story of a lonely and lost man who struggles to survive, to hope in a hopeless world which has the purpose to crush him, to turn him to pieces. A man who fights for something lost in advance, a man who fights against the ineluctable where no escape is possible. This man is a petty security guard in a large shopping center. He is a former union leader who lost his job because of his rage against the ruthless executives, and he has not changed at all. But he has nothing more to lose. A poignant, touching character for whom I almost wept. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER The ending is very similar to the one you have in RIFIFI, PHOENIX and THE American.
