Review of Heroes Reborn

Heroes Reborn (2015–2016)
7/10
Bye bye good memories
2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
How excited I got from seeing the teaser during the Superbowl, how frustrated I am now from seeing the first episode. Five years have passed after the last season of Heroes. So you would think they would have had enough time to come up with a story as original as season 1 and 2. Instead they proceed on the same level of story telling as season 3 and 4. For the ones that have not seen those seasons, I can tell you those weren't any good.

The first few minutes start off quite nice. It's good to see Noah Bennett again, hear the theme song and see some of the strange powers come into play. But, after a big explosion he appears to be the sole survivor. Quite convenient isn't it. Only a few minutes into the new show and this already struck me as odd.

As other reviewers have already pointed out, there are more 'oddities' to this show. A 15 year old girl working in a ice cream parlor and already conducting the job interviews. A boy in the same ice cream parlor sees a business card of that same parlor and immediately knows that's the one he left in the place where an explosion took place. Although it had the same smiley signed on it, it still could've been a random card. And of course, pom poms are literally everywhere. What a cliché.

But the thing that nearly made me switch off my TV was without a doubt the Katana girl. I don't even want to say too much about it, since everything has already been said. But seriously come on, after five years you come up with a girl that morphs into a video game to save her dad. That's the best you can do?

The only thing that keeps me going in this show is the mystery of not knowing what Noah apparently has forgotten and what is 'coming'. That and maybe some cameo's of old characters. For everything else, all I can say is thank you Tim Kring for ruining our last fond memories of Heroes.

Update Nov 11: Having seen ep 7 and 8, I have to change my opinion about this show. It's really picking up. The plot is unveilling and although at first I thought it was only getting worse, it's very interesting now. They finally give explanations to who is Katana Girl, why is Joanne trying to kill all the Evo's, why does the world need to be saved again and by who. Hopefully they will keep this up towards the end of season 1. I am changing my vote and can't wait for ep 9.
