Review of Darr

Darr (1993)
7/10
One of Shah Rukh's better films
3 October 2015
I myself am not a huge fan of SRK. Mainly the romantic SRK. But I do know he's made some good films here and there. Darr is one of them.

I'll start off with the acting. This film was early on in Shah Rukh's career, this is when he was in his villainous phase. Back then he was not what he is today, an overacting romantic. He was actually pretty good when he started off. In Darr he impressed me. Even though he did tend to overact in regular scenes and ham at some points, most of the time he was excellent. His portrayal of the obsessive man creeped you out and kept you hooked, and in the intense scenes his intensity, emotional displays and just his overall nature made you feel for the character. I really liked his performance in Darr. It wasn't really the usual SRK. Besides that Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla were good, they had good chemistry. But really besides them, it was all bout SRK.

However, besides the leading actors doing well, the rest of the film was average. It still had cheesy classic Yash Chopra love, good music, some clichés, some cheesy scenes, and other things like that. But really SRK helps you to forget about that.

Overall, I think this is a pretty good film to watch, especially if you are a Shah Rukh Khan fan. Even if you're not, like me, you can still enjoy pre-romantic phase SRK. Overall this is a good 7.4-7.5ish out of 10.
