Oldfashioned and outdated
12 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Suneel Darshan is one director who mostly resorts to old stories to move audiences, After giving a new lease to Akki's career with Jaanwar(1999) he gave him a flop TALAASH(2003) which also was a mix of many old films In 2005 he gave 2 films BARSAAT(copy of SWEET HOME ALABAMA) and DOSTI, both films flopped at the B.O. Dosti friends forever is as oldfashioned as ever, The film has all the clichés we have seen before, like the childhood friendship between rich boy Bobby Deol and a poor boy(done in the most outdated fashion) Bobby's parents have no time for him, they are the typical rich parents seen in films like Bobby(1973). Akshay's character reminds us of characters like Rajesh Khanna in Namak Haraam(1973) who relies on his friend for everything. Anywayz after years, Bobby is a playboy(like in Dillagi) whereas Akki is a sincere guy, Akki loves Kareena(this trio were in Ajnabee together) Bobby slowly and predictabily falls for Lara who gives him a trial period to prove himself. There is a twist at the interval which is well handled but then in the second half suddenly the film goes into the Kal Ho Naa Ho mode There are some good emotional scenes but the film gets too predictable yet Akshay's death scene is well handled

Direction is outdated, nothing really to speak about Nadeem Sharavan's music too sounds dated, in fact this was their last film together as a pair.

Akshay Kumar plays his role superbly, in that year Akki had got noticed as a comedian with GARAM MASALA which was a hit, followed by DHP which flopped, this was his last release and thankfully he isn't just a comedian, he does the serious part superbly Bobby Deol too is good as his friend, he leaves a huge mark especially in the emotional scenes but his appearance and styling could be better Kareena Kapoor gets less scope but does a good job, this wa her 3rd pairing with Akshay after TALAASH and BEWAFAA. Lara Dutta doesn't really get much scope and is okay Juhi Chawla is superb in her small role, Mahesh Thakur is good Kiran Kumar, Lilette Dubey are typecast, Shakti Kapoor has a cameo Karishma Tanna is okay in a brief role rest are all okay
