I really thought this would be a fascinating GoPro type movie with exciting visuals and great action scenes. It really isn't. The video quality does not hold up, going from GoPro to big screen. Only the relatively still shots are decently HD quality. Lots of the movie is low quality video. Almost ALL the movie is jerky, bouncy, crude. This was a full length experiment done for the first time this way. We don't need any more such experiments unless they can be done far better. It fell well short of my expectations, mainly due to the unsteadiness of almost the entire movie. Film makers have spent decades perfecting steady-cams and such for a darn good reason. So this experiment is a large step back from state of the art.
The idea of this movie was to make the viewer truly feel like they were in the scene. Unfortunately, that idea was not realized. If one envisions any number of crude FPS games and how they don't really "feel" like you are the protagonist, this movie fails in exactly the same way. It tries really hard again and again and again and again. But it just doesn't pull it off, I'd say. Try again? Maybe not.
As a note, one must say that almost all the GoPro videos I've seen on Youtube are much better, much cleaner, much more dramatic (believe it or not) than this big screen rendering, which used GoPros or modified versions of that type camera.
As for plot and acting and dialog, this is a total bust. The movie really is almost exactly like a FPS video game only lots more repetitive, believe it or not. There was more blood, gore, and mayhem in this than in a dozen normal action films. And the endless violence serves no purpose to speak of. The plot, such as it is, is obscure and primitive and weakly developed. The acting in boring. Not much to recommend here.
In a word, a waste of money to see. A waste of time to view at home as well, except for maybe just out of curiosity to see what the fuss is about (be sure not to pay for it though!).
