A totally soft « cruising » set in Italian « Birdcage » (vhs)
27 May 2016
For the first one, Vincent does like Al : he is a policeman who does his duty in the gay zone and who become disturbed by this new way of life. For the second, those gays are not the hard leather guys but rather funny, eccentric queers ! If it's true it bores me to have gay characters popping in whatever the movie is about, i have no bias when this sexuality is indeed the main element of the story (see also « boys don't cry »). Here, i really enjoyed the movie because it stays realistic, close to real people : Vincent is a young and inexperienced policeman, la Bellucci works in a factory, the friendly queer prostitutes to earn his life ! The Roma locations is inspired as we see the old monuments but also the quiet, unseen city and for sure, we also met the Italian icons : Pasta and Church ! Above all, the stories of the characters are believable and the cast is really into it : for one time, la Bellucci speaks and doesn't do the statue. And the Italian trans is really sweet and caring and has something like Penelope Cruz. If i don't give « 10 », it's because some scenes are stretched to fill the time and the other trans are really just unbearable and totally clichés !
