a must see for Ophüls aficionados
7 January 2018
French Cinémathèque in Paris is quite generous in retrospectives nowadays : Max Ophüls, Sam Fuller and Tod Browning. My favorite directors. Marcel Ophüls shot that intelligent documentary about his father in the end of his carrer, when he assisted him for his last masterpieces. Lot of rich informations and interviews (Daniele Darrieux, Daniel Gélin, Martine Carol, Peter Ustinov) and Marcel Ophüls is an excellent narrator who tells us why Max Ophüls loved so much shooting his famous camera movements, so great to listen to this. Now, how can we find this exceptional documentary? A few days after seeing "Max par Marcel", I saw "A Fuller Life", the documentary shot by Samantha Fuller on her father Sam (it could have been titled "Sam by Sam"). I'll have to find some more documentaries on directors shot by their chidren.
