Anticipation of an image of "cine-eyes" by Vertov
20 February 2019
There are those photographers who give images from all over the world and there are other types of photographers. Keaton is overwhelmed by other photographers trying to capture a solemn event. In the crowd he is inebriated by a girl and tries to photograph her, but in the meantime that he mounts the equipment, the girl goes away. At the M.G.M he traces the girl. The two come into visual contact through the detail of her eyes and the detail of Keaton's gaze with the camera in front of her eyes. This is a metaphor on the look in the cinema, which starts from the need for an image. The photographer looks for work at the production house, so at the first event that happens, he runs on a bus with the camera, anticipating this image compared to the movie of Vertov "Man with a movie camera". The photographer exchanges the phone number with the girl and runs to her. When he takes the walk with the girl and I'm on the bus, he falls to the ground. Then they go to the pool and after an acquaintance of the girl passes, who goes to get her on the car. Immediately the carriage mounts and the photographer fits into the back. Then it rains and the girl leaves the photographer under the water. Another event takes place to photograph and he, with the help of a monkey, resumes a lively shooting. The photographer and the monkey find themselves locked up in the room with the bandits until the police arrive. Eventually the photographer realizes he had not inserted the film so the shooting are short. The girl does not want to see him anymore and the monkey makes him understand that it has replaced the film. He tries to take back the girl who is on the boat with another man, but arrives late and the monkey filmed. Vertov's "cine-eye" concept is anticipating by playing on the comic and at the same time filmic potentials of a clumsy photographer.
