Evil entities are tormenting the Freeling family once again
7 June 2019
One year after the events portrayed in 'Poltergeist', Diane and Steven Freeling and their children, Carol Anne and Robbie are living with Diane's mother. They believe their supernatural problems are over but inevitably they soon return. The family are confronted by two unexpected visitors; Taylor, a Native American medicine man sent by to psychic Tangina Barrons and Rev Henry Kane a rather creepy preacher. The family will have to decide who to trust. In the events that follow they will have to find the strength required to face demonic creatures that want Carol Anne and are a danger to all of them.

As with most sequels this isn't as good as the first film but it still has plenty to commend it. The story is fairly solid and makes sense in the context of what we saw in the original. The special effects are impressive for the era and the monsters are suitably scary. They are however outshone by Julian Beck's performance as Rev Kane; a character who is softly spoken but distinctly creepy... he is ideal in the role. Most of the original characters return; it was perhaps a pity that elder daughter Dana wasn't mentioned but given that actress Dominique Dunne was murdered between the making of the two films it might be the right choice. The cast is solid; JoBeth Williams and Craig T Nelson impress as Diane and Steven and young Heather O'Rourke was a delight as Carol Anne. Overall this isn't a must see but if you like '80s horror films it is worth checking out.
