Could have been great but missed the chances repeatedly

I really wanted to like this anime more. And I did like it but it was also frustrating because of how great it could have been . My problem was that every time this series could have gone for subtle approach it decided to go for melodrama instead. Instead of using teaspoon of pathos it poured it with shovels.
