Review of Stateless

Stateless (2020)
7/10
An interesting and unusual tale so far!
10 March 2020
If it hadn't been inspired by a true story, I would've rated it worse, given the majority of immigrants in the story are depicted as secondary characters to the plot. The depiction of the three guards unfortunately feels fairly contrived.

Is the only way an immigration/refugee story can be told in Australia or the wider Western world, irrespective of sympathy, if it is told through the eyes of someone who looks like Yvonne Strahovski? (Perhaps so, and she does do a great job. But her story ultimately breaks the mould and likely conflates the issues of mental health provision and immigration/asylum).

Who knows though, I remain unaware of how the central story plays out, but I look forward to the next episode. Definitely worth a watch!

WARNING: Viewer discretion is advised; some viewers easily triggered by immigration stories, may lash out wildly and incomprehensibly, in an effort to get attention. Please be aware, and maintain a safe distance at all times.
