Warning: Spoilers
A heartwarming Hollywood fable based on the Dick King-Smith novel, BABE wins points for doing pretty much everything right. It has an elaborate mixture of real animals augmented by CGI mouths and animatronic effects, an involved plot with a large cast and plenty of incident, proper characterisation of even the animals, and a winning performance from James Cromwell as the big-hearted yet taciturn farmer. It's not a perfect film, sometimes saddled with the annoying OTT voice performances that blight American animation and occasionally twee, but generally it ticks all the right boxes.
