Beach Red (1967)

Breath taking... in a hidden way
30 August 2020
This movie is very impressive but....
  • bad acting
  • bad camera work
  • bad script
  • poor plot
So why do I describe it as breath taking...?

The movie focuses on the very personal lives of the soldiers and dramatizes their emotions, feelings and thoughts. It involves the politics, the trauma, the doubts and all those elements that go into the thinking of a modern soldier. The acting is so poor, one might think you are watching a dramatization in a documentary,.

Look at when this movie was made... 1967 ! This was at the time where the USA involvement in the Vietnam War was escalating and public opinion was one of questioning it's government of if it was right to be in this war. This make "Beach Red" a very confrontational film. While it does not boast a political message, it does leave the viewer watch questioning if it is the right thing to do.

While this movie portrays US soldiers against Japanese, it could just as easily be the Crusaders against Saladin.

The movie is one that confronts the viewer with the morality and horror of war while subtle in the background questioning the politics.

Well recommended watching.
