Smoke Good, Drink Good, Film Bad...
15 September 2020
Boris Karloff reprises his role as the monster but this time developing a liking for the pleasures enjoyed by others while finding a voice. Previously it was the Baron filling the ridiculous and out of context character role, now that pleasure goes to Minnie, a construction so irritatingly misplaced you could easily halt proceedings and turn your attention to something else entirely, although the characterisations are generally pretty poor all round. It has its place in history and you can take context from that but as a piece of entertainment, which is what it ultimately is, it has become the monster it seeks to deploy.
