If You See My Mother (2019 TV Movie)
5/10
More irritating than funny
29 October 2020
A dentist, an ophthalmologist, and a shrink share an office suite ... OK, that's as funny as it gets. The dentist Eddy (nicknamed oedipus) is too close to his mother, but that is just a subplot. It is actually ophthalmologist Max who is way too close to his mother Monique, and after she dies suddenly, sees her ghost everywhere. So when Max starts a relationship with shrink Ohiana, the ghost of Monique becomes jealous and possessive: spying, interfering, and giving gratuitous advice. But even as Max gets irritated with her, he has trouble letting her go.

The interference in the human relationship is more than that of Ted, the talking teddy bear. Monique never backs off. Writing Ohiana as a shrink is also questionable. She sees enough clients without starting a relationship with someone who should be the client of a shrink.

I saw this as a digital release from the Toronto Jewish Film Festival. That meant that I could go back and re-watch the 1st 10 minutes. A lot happens in that 10 minutes, foreshadowing events to come, but without knowledge of who the characters were, it was just a confused jumble on 1st viewing.
