Warning: Spoilers
This racing drama doesn't really have a plot, just a series of tied together events focusing on race car driver Kirk Douglas who has a major car accident and must go through a period of healing before he can resume his career. Bella Darvi of "The Egyptian" co-stars as the pretty young woman who stands by him throughout, and Cesar Romero, Gilbert Roland, Lee J. Cobb and Katy jurado their support group.

Since the plot doesn't really generate any heat, something else must be there to keep the viewer engaged, and that's the action and the terrific European Cinemascope photography. The accidents that occur are brutal and will raise your eyes wide open, and breathtaking mountain scenery is certainly cinematic to look at.

As long as director Henry Hathaway and the director of photographely focus on these moments, the film is engaging, but the dramatic moments really don't possess the passion that this story would have really needed to fully succeed. There's a pretty Peggy Lee song along the way, but unfortunately, there's no fountain to toss the coins into and to make the magic last once that song is heard.
