I found Michael to be amazingly witty with his insults and elaborate punishments which never failed to make me laugh.
I easily became invested in each character, even though I don't relate to them personally I became very fond of them. Their dynamic is perfect honestly and the show just wouldn't work without them all there, they all have a unique character but somehow work well as a family and are actually really loving and close despite some comments I have seen.
I read a critic review saying there is no representation of positive messages but that just isn't true. They sit down and talk to the kids about the hard to tackle topics like when junior got high or Claire was considering having sex. I dont think that they were always perfect at choosing how to deal with everything but then what family is. Yes there is hitting (only junior) and over the top punishments at times but thats literally what makes this a comedy, its not real its just to make us laugh and its best not to think to deeply about it (would you get mad when the Simpsons isn't realistic?). Even then at the end of the day Michael respects his wife and cares about his children more than anything and is always trying to help them be their best, he just has extravagant ways of doing so.
I love this show and honestly there isn't many TV shows out there that I genuinely do love like this, it was funny when I was a kid and its still funny now.
