"Look Again" was a stylish and intricately constructed thriller set in Chicago. Allison Brown is embarking on a career as a realtor when her world collapses around her. In a brutal act of violence, she is attacked in the home of her boyfriend, Zach Hardy. Instead of watching his back, Zach tackles the assailant and is stabbed to death.

While Detective Jennifer Marshall provides some moral support to Allison, she and the police are slow in connecting all the dots. The film unfolds a killer-on-the-loose scenario with Allison discovering the identity of her tormentor virtually on her own.

There was an interesting group of characters clustered around Allison, including the mercurial financier Stafford Keach and his protégé, Mike Caldon. Mike has started a relationship with Nancy, who is Allison's bestie. At one of the key junctures of the film, Nancy betrays the trust of Allison and lies to the police in order to give Mike an alibi. Another strange character is Rick Palmer, a struggling artist with connections to both Stafford and Mike. Rick also had a past association with Allison's lover, Zach. Allison's boss, Myra Banning, is linked to Stafford in an amorous way. When it becomes clear that Myra knows too much, she will take a fatal tumble down the stairs and make an exit from the screenplay.

There was a terrific performance by Morena Baccarin in the role of the beleaguered Allison. The screenplay offered good dramatic tension and a strong build to the major revelation at the end. As convoluted as the plot was, the film was still eminently watchable. The only point where credibility was truly stretched was in the love connection of Allison and the artist Rick. Would she really give him a second chance after he lied and had a major meltdown reminiscent of his "dark days" after his wife Patricia allegedly threw herself out a window?

Rick's conduct was so unpredictable that Allison would be wise to "look again" when it comes to renewing her acquaintance with Mr. Rick Palmer.
