Excellent acting and I'm glad to see an event like this actually covered (see also Beneath Hill 60), but this movie was a bit of a disappointment, employing every modern war movie cliché there is. And quite a few general modern movie plot clichés.
While what happens in the movie, did happen, the even involved a lot more than half a dozen men. And there was little thought that it could possibly end the war. In other words, the whole deal is semi-accurate and there are obvious attempts to heighten the drama throughout.
I'm of the opinion that when you're portraying a monumental event, you don't need all the rigmarole. The event itself supplies more than enough if you just allow it to.
A nice try, but not up to the standards of Dunkirk and 1917. Better than the cartoonish Midway and Pearl Harbor. They could probably trim a half hour to 45 minutes and make it a much better movie.
See Beneath Hill 60 which I have not seen, but features a similar plot.
