A Masterpiece!

Warning: Spoilers
First off, I'm not even a huge fan of race car drivers. I'd heard the name 'Hurley" over the years. Always thought they meant the surf clothing brand. Lol I saw this Documentary on HULU. I've got a lot of friends and some family who love NASCAR. But the Dayton 500 and 24 Hour Le Mans, is no JOKE. The story is about Hurley Haywood who won it 5 times... At first I didn't know he was gay. At the beginning of the film they show him after races posing with all these beautiful women. It's crazy how in the film, they sort of hit you with it the same way Hurley came out with it in 2018. After finding this I out I absolutely take NOTHING away from this 5 time Daytona 500 race car driver champion. This dude is a legend, pure greatness, a rare breed , and very few humans are capable of these achievements, and reaching talents at certain heights, like Hurley Haywood. Regardless if straight or not... His long time race team partner, Peter Gregg is another phenomenal driver. Unfortunately he gets injured, hindering his eyesight. On the last lap at Le Mans, Hurley gets tired, and has Peter Gregg drive for him, with a one lap lead in place. Due to Gregg's injury's, he wasn't the same racer as he first started when he would battle Hurley neck for neck.

Gregg lost the race and finished third. He blamed Hurley for the incident, inferring Hurley did it to him intentionally. The two didn't speak for nearly ten years.

The two friends finally talked in 1980,reconciled, at Peter Gregg's beach house with him and Hurley discussing evening plans. Peter Gregg asked Hurley if he'd like to go see a basketball game tonight. Hurley replied he couldn't and had other plans. An hour later Peter Gregg takes a shotgun to his head, and blows him self away.

What a heartbreaking, horrible, tragedy. You know I watch a lot of sports docs about football, baseball, or basketball players or boxers or etc. Race car drivers are athletes also. They have to work at it, and train hard also and can develop PTSD over the years especially after horrific crashes.

After the shocking loss of Hurley's best friend, he wins the Daytona for his 5th and final time. He then starts his own race team, marries his partner of 20 some odd years, has two dogs, and lives happily ever after. All in all a enjoyable film to watch, and a must see if your a race fan.

The movie is also costarred with Patrick Dempsey, the writer and Hollywood movie actor as well. He was also a race car driver who idolizes Hurley.

Enjoy!
