So we have another simple show like the weapon smithing show or a tattoo show or a baking show and maybe even also a cooking show. I am at episode 9 of the first season now.
It is just a very simple show:
So this is a small show, lots of unknown people for me, which I like and they are doing something I am not into. So the show does not do much to inform you or getting to know more of what they are doing. I wanted to see the experts doing something, or do a little workshop something like that.
They are only judging and talking, sometimes they give a small hint if something is not right, but I do not have the feeling they trying to make the glassblowers better. So they are only a judge. So I do not like it so much, but it is ofcourse totally legit this way.
It is difficult to get a connection with the glassblowers, there is almost no introduction. But I like to see and hear what they are thinking. It are amazing people. Mostly I do not like artists because there are so far of reality, but I can respect it and most of these people I found a new respect. Never knew glassblowing and creativity were so close.
There are a few people who think they are good, because they have a lot of expierence. Ok true ofcourse, but what if you are doing it 30 years wrong? Or there are new techniques/ideas from the young people. And why must you say that all the time? I do like that some glassblowers are giving positive feedback on the work of the other.
So for me this is a short introduction into glassblowing which I like, but I want to know more. I know it is just a small show, but it would be fun to change the concept a bit. I liked there was a team challenge, but suddenly nobody needed to go home because... Well... They all deserve to stay??? So this can be 2 ways: oh we cannot send the 3 times winner home so luckliy we have all the freedom to change the rules, or they just do it completely to make it more tense for the viewer. Which is not working for me. So I do not trust the judges so much anymore now.
I do not always agree with there judging, but they are people and this is also about taste. So after 5 episodes I only watch the first minutes and the design fase and then I skip to the judging and explaining part. What happens in between... I do not care, it is always the same. It are small fragments of 4 or 5 hours of work. And like I say, you do not get much information. So it is useless for me. I rather have a longer episode with more information.
So for me this is a show that is good to watch, because the subject is new: glassblowing. And interesting. I think after a few seasons I saw it all, but I do like the glassblowers. So I want to see as many as unique people and ideas please! So for that it is a solid 6. There is much that can be improved. But I keep on watching.
Edit: watched the whole season, something important I forget to add: there is no explanation why someone is the winner and what the others can improve. But especially now with the final, I have missed the emotions of the loser or must I say: the runner up? He was the best glassblower the judges say, has won the most challenges so suddenly the woman is cheering and you see the credits. That is a bit too fast for me ;).
Still great to see the end result, it are great artists. Hopefully they all got some positive attention / boost for their careers.
