Wonderful Entertainment Deserving of Re-Mastering in Wide-Screen.
30 October 2021
Most of the reviewers will be alarmed at my declaring this re-make as one of my all-time favourite films but it simply is.

I'll admit to it's nostalgic appeal for me given that our family went to most of the June Allyson films of the 1950's and loved her in all of them. The catchy title song sung by The Four Aces really gets the film off to a rollicking start and I love the way it repeated in gentle choral tones as the story progresses. The other songs are good too and I never tire of the 'Temporarily' number with it's fun innuendo (lost on me as a child). I think June Allyson is perfectly cast and works well under her husband's direction ; her timing on the bus journey is marvellous , as is that of Jack Lemmon who teams up charmingly with June. The picture quality of my DVD is only fair but I still re-watch it several times a year. A real gem.
