An interesting character study.

A clever and thought-provoking character study. Through a near structure-less narrative where the writer mainly just walks around the city, we get quite a great deal of insight into his personality. I enjoyed how, despite the fact that Pontus was on the brim of becoming homeless all throughout the film, he continued to stick to his shenanigans, like refusing to accept any money due to his belief that other people were in need of it more than him (even though he was in desperate need of it himself) and talking down to various people who didn't do any wrongs to him. From what we saw, Pontus seemed to be a promising writer and, if he didn't maintain such a high level of pride of condescension, maybe he'd experience more luck. Unfortunately though, his ego kept bringing him back to square one over and over again. As interesting as Pontus is though, I didn't enjoy this film as much as I thought I would in the opening act. We knew basically as much about Pontus is the opening 10 minutes as we did by the end of the film. He appeared to be on the brim of losing everything all throughout the film and there were several parts where I felt the film was building to something, but he just remained in his original state - up until the final minute, I suppose. Even his failure to connect with Ylajali, which is built up throughout a massive chunk of the film, ultimately feels like a minor bump in the road. It's still an interesting film though and worth watching.
