Having seen many striking films by this director, one comes with some anticipation. While this film moves along, showing the unsettled nature of its protagonist, it never reaches any great emotional peak. I'm not versed in all of the incarnations of Doinel, but he is a bit unsettled for me. His being seems particularly shallow in this one with a conclusion that really leaves me in sort of a blah state. I guess, ultimately, I just don't care much about him. Not a bad film, but a little bump on the road.
