British black comedy
27 March 2022
Businessman Henry Bell (Sam Neill) has recently been downsized. He is ready to jump off the Tower Bridge when out of the blue, he hears Karen Knightly (Helena Bonham Carter) screaming for help. She's caught up hanging over the bridge. He helps her back up and she invites him for a drink. They agree to seek revenge against each other's enemies. His is Bruce Tick (Steve Coogan) who took his job. Hers is Imogen Staxton-Billing (Kristin Scott Thomas) who stole back her husband Anthony Staxton-Billing.

This is based on a play which draws inspiration from the Alfred Hitchcock classic Strangers on a Train. It's a good setup but the dry British humor slowly loses its power. The story is also splitting the action into two separate lines which dilutes its narrative power. Sam Neill's dry straight man needs Carter's great weirdness to balance him out. They actually work real well together. This is a passable black comedy.
