A solid start!

Warning: Spoilers
Casting nailed it so far - Anson Mount is the perfect Pike. Spock, Number 1, Ahura - and the rest of the bridge crew and science officers are really well cast.

Episode 1 was interesting - a little preachy but not in an overbearing way - the writing is MILES ahead of Discovery and Picard. Those shows - especially discovery - come across so hokey and insincere - this comes across genuine. Great CGI and sets.

Interesting that apart from Spock and Pike they entirety of the bridge crew is female. The actresses are good though so it comes across pretty natural and not forced... it's just played as "this is the crew and the people that ended up in these positions" as opposed to the "girl power!" thing that companies like paramount and Disney seem to be super fond of lately.

I think - even if the scripts end up being average on this series - that the cast they have will elevate the material.

Episode 1 was interesting - I think it's a great way to set up what to expect from the "strange new worlds" theme.
