Over the Edge 1999 Thoughts

Over the Edge 1999 was 2nd annual Over the Edge PPV event produced by the WWF. It took place May 23, 1999 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. This event is infamous of the fatel in-ring death of Owen Hart who was scheduled to face the Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship. I won't get into every detail of this moment but this whole show had a lot of controversey due to the decision of Vince continuing to let the show go on. Many fans and critics have shown major heat to the WWF and Vince for the stunt and aftermath decision. Match card featured 6 matches.

The Good - Nothing much. Wrestlers post the incident did a good job maintaining focus of doing their job.

The Meh - Majority of the card was alright. The crowd did not seem to be full of energy due to what happened. It really obvious this crowd was stunned for majority of this show because of what was witnessed. JR & King didn't feel comfortable with their jobs this entire night but who could blame them? This lead to none of the matches feeling exciting aside from the main event which was okay.

The Bad - Road Dogg vs. Billy Gunn was the only lame match of the night. It was bland and the 2 didn't connect. Some teams don't have chemistry 1 on 1. Rock vs. Triple H ending in DQ did a number on it. However they had a better match 2 months later.

Overrall - A very hard PPV to watch. It's more likely harder for those who remembered it live. You could see many empty seats as the show continued and it was hardly watchable even from an edited view.
