. . . kitty behaving like a marauding feral feline is dead and buried by the end of the story, as his former prey chortle with glee and high five each other for their deliverance from Evil. THE EGG AND JERRY finds a brainy, newly-hatched red-headed woodpecker able to perform calculations of basic trigonometry, which allows him to somewhat implausibly peck through a telephone pole like some sort of super fast chainsaw and have the towering piece of lumber land squarely on Tom the Cat's noggin, bashing out his brains and efficiently burying him several feet deep at the same time. Talk about an uplifting ending for ordinary people, such as bird watchers.
