Review of Scrooge

Scrooge (1935)
7/10
Seymour Hicks does it again

Scrooge (1935) builds on the films that came before it. Not only is it the first feature-length adaptation of Charles Dickens's novella with sound, but it also shows more people in different classes and widens the scope of the story. It's also interesting to see Seymour Hicks play the same role that he played over 20 years earlier in Old Scrooge (1913). He still makes a fantastic Ebenezer and is able to be both a fear-inducing curmudgeon and a joyful lover of Christmas. I don't know why they chose not to show some of the spirits, but I do think this is a version of the story everyone should see.
