Evocative exploration of Argentinian identity and tango
29 November 2022
Loved this beautiful film exploring relationships - relationships within a family, between tango partners, and with a country. The consequences of belonging to a country with a passionate tango tradition and a violent political past are woven together creatively and we are drawn into both as two siblings explore their identities. The film and soundtrack enhanced and partnered each other like dancers, and together captured the intensity and tradition of milongas. The film shared a deep understanding and passion for tango with the viewers. If we weren't tango dancers before, we soon will be. The film also illustrates how families were impacted by the "disappeared", and if spreading awareness of that painful chapter of Argentinian history helps another family then that is a wonderful result.
