The Box (2009) is a movie that I recently rewatched on Tubi. The storyline follows a young couple with a lot of love but barely enough funds to make ends meet. One inauspicious day a man arrives at their door when only the wife is home and offers them one million dollars in exchange for the loss of a life of someone they don't know. All they need to do is push a button. The man gives the couple 24-hours to think about it. The couple wrestles with the idea of someone dying to cure their misfortunes and then they have to deal with the consequences of their decision.

This movie is directed by Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) and stars Cameron Diaz (The Mask), James Marsden (X-Men), Frank Langella (Draft Day), Deborah Rush (You've Got Mail), Holmes Osborne (Donnie Darko) and Gillian Jacobs (Choke).

I really liked the premise for this movie, how the circumstances are set up and the intensity that hangs over the couple the entire picture. It reminded me of Needful Things in a lot of way. The cast is absolutely excellent and Diaz delivers a strong performance. The writing is very clever and the subplot of Diaz's history/foot was interesting. The face of the man with the box and his back story is well done also. There was always one scene I didn't like in this movie, a scene with way too much CGI where the husband has to "pick the box," but the conclusion and final circumstance/decision was a perfect way to end the film.

Overall, this is a very clever picture and worthwhile addition to the thriller/horror genre. I would score this a 7-7.5/10 and strongly recommend it.
