Too out there for it´s own good
16 January 2023
While I criticized the first Cody Banks movie for having no identity on its own, this movie showed me what identity it wanted and it´s not good. It´s a fine enough kids movie plot, but the humor is bad and not landing, the editing is bad and the characters and acting has taking a huge step down.

Former CIA agent Diaz goes rough and steals mind control technology. It´s up to Cody Banks and his new handler to track down Diaz and stop him. He has gone to London so Banks must go undercover as a musician.

The story is just fine here and is fine enough in terms of pacing. The agent stuff is cool enough and the plot follows the classic spy formula, maybe just a bit faster. The problem here is not really the plot, but everything around it. It´s a generic movie with a shell of just bad decisions.

First of all, what is wrong with everyone in this movie? It feels like it upped the kidish humor and tone in the worst way possible. Everyone is over the top and it´s not funny. Banks is made really dumb and his handler incompetent. Other than that, this movie is Cleary not written by an Englishmen since it really wants to make fun of the dialects, the words, way of speaking etc. There are also so many characters that are just straight up insane. Codys gadget guy is a crazy brit, doing insane laughing, the evil helper is a manchild and the butler is just out there, blind and mumbles to himself. I don't know why they have so many insane and over the top characters, and they aren't even fun or interesting just distracting.

The humor really isn't good. The jokes never land and is extremely basic. The physical comedy is being mean and then people laughing about it and other than that it´s just people being absolutely insane and of course there are both fart and pee humor in here. Yup, the movie really wanted to take itself that low.

The movie is illogical too. When Banks find out who the bad guy is, where they are and their plan, why aren't they calling the rest of the CIA? It´s a slam dunk, they have won, but no, the movie has to be all about Banks saving the day. It worked in the first one to an extent but here it´s just to pad out the movie. There is also a scene where Banks is clearly just walking in a doctor costume and is not an adult. Why is no one asking questions? I don't know, kid movie logic, I guess.

This movie thinks its way funnier, exiting and cooler than it actually is. It´s sad when a movie tells you it´s something it´s not.

The editing is terrible. Every action scene is butchered by way too fast cutting and the same could be said about just basic scenes. I have no idea why the movie butchered itself in the editing room, but it really made the movie unwatchable at times.

The acting here is not good. Some actors are doing a fine enough job, but mostly the delivery is flat and uninspiring.

This movie is not good. It goes on for too long. Is ugly, has bad acting, horrible humor and is too out there for itself. It´s a kids movie that wanted to be nothing but that and it´s in no way worth a watch. Because if it was just crazy, sure, a fun watch then, but it´s just boring and slow the rest of it´s runtime.
