Unfocused and Unpleasant
29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film was a hodgepodge of styles with touches of dark comedy, horror, and an unfocused message about gender. At two points in the film, a university professor is lecturing about male chauvinism. But even her lectures do not help in providing guidelines for understanding the film's message.

It is possible that most of the action is occurring in the imagination of the protagonist, Shae. At one point towards the end, she rises up out of the bath water as if everything that has previously transpired was in her mind. But it is hopeless to speculate on how much of what we have witnessed is real, including the deeply troubled character Lulu.

Above all, there was far too much violence. Was this a parody of a slasher film? The film's title of "Girls Against Boys" suggests a battle of the sexes was taking place. But the end result was primarily a set of repellent characters--both male and female--stripped of human values.
