Review of Cobra

Cobra (2020–2023)

A very interesting show indeed, but really needing a steady hand in its storyline as its an example of shows today weighed down by extreme emotional impossibilities.

The production and acting is impeccable. Carlyle is his usual brilliant as are Victoria Hamilton, Richard Dormer and David Haig. Britain is known for its beautiful and developed characters, and everyone fits like a glove in this fast-paced script. There is nothing to complain about here, nor find fault in.

The storyline is another thing.

The plasma storm from the sun is mentioned in the first episode as the cause for the eventual issues, but is basically forgotten from then on. Absolute chaos reigns as the Government & certain public factions battle each other, from the result of the storm. And if there is a reason for the battles, then you have to just assume you know and guess what the reasons are.

I.e Anarchists in a small area expect to raid London & take over the government. They're complaining the Govt can't restore power, while they thwart the Govt from restoring power.

Other subplots are well-planned, but again, overly extreme it their application. Its like the writers thought that a worst-case-scenerio was required in everything, but only made the show intensely improbable from all aspects.

Overall disappointing in what could have a been a classic series, albeit, the first season I'm commenting on, hoping season two is more balanced.
