Delightful 1930's film about a period of history (The French and Indian War) in North America which I don't really have much knowledge of. Hell, I've at the time of watching this version not watched the 1992 version starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
No what attracted me to this film was its being a Randolph Scott vehicle, Scott playing the character of Hawkeye, a colonial scout. As the film progresses we learn a bit about Hawkeye's motives, his history and by the end he enlists in the British army where as at the beginning of the film he is pretty anti-British.
The film cast mainly English speaking white actors in the Indian roles of which their are quite a few.
It's a film that doesn't take a great deal seriously in my opinion. Perhaps it was the period it was filmed (1936) or its low budget.
My review title refers to a scene in the film which reminded me of the I'm Spartacus scene in Spartacus (1960). This film has nothing to do with Spartacus but that one scene!
