Artistic, Beautiful Spanish Thriller

So many elements of The Corruption of Chris Miller are as eccentric as they are stylish, and as symbolic as they are aesthetically pleasing.

The enigmatic usage of animals may be a nod at Argento or it may be yet another symbol of the beastly nature of humanity by director Juan Antonio Bardem.

Charlie Chaplin as a giallo-esque opening murder/pastiche was certainly unique and strange, while Chris' violent reaction to rain and not bathtub shower water borders on the silly.

Bardem makes full usage of an excellently appointed house full of glorious antiques, and pairs this vaguely creepy domesticity with gratuitous shots of horses running through the grassy countryside, Chris braless and astride one of the horses at least two separate times in the film for people that are into Marisol.

I liked the way they showed the difference in age and the massive change of the late 1960s with 20 year old Chris constantly in jeans and tank top, long hair free in the wind and a 35 year old stepmother played by an aging Jean Seberg in dated puffy sleeves, one ridiculous Marilyn Monroe dress and some garish brightly colored smock best left back in 1963 (Jean looks 45 imo, maybe it's just me but fragile blondes are breathtaking in youth but age twice as fast as healthy brunettes or redheads in their 30s and 40s maybe that's why generally they're are so few left in the gene pool these days).

Definitely give this movie a look if you enjoy giallos or atmospheric 70s horror.
