Irene Roma is tasked by her brother to take half an amulet to America where it could unlock a fortune to assist the Chinese people but a renegade Russian and a Japanese military intelligence officer are also in pursuit of it. Most of the film is set in Shanghai. It's not a terrible film but it wasn't that exciting either. The best character was Ralph Morgan as Howard Barclay who assists Irene but who is not quite what he seems. Lynda Grey as Irene is bland and James Dunn as press photographer Johnny McGinty who is drawn into helping Irene wisecracks constantly but eventually becomes wearisome. In support it was nice to see Billy Bevan as a very Irish bartender, Richard Loo as a Chinese gunsel and Victor Sen Yung as a heroic but short-lived messenger. There is a lot of alarming stock footage of bombings and blasts. On the whole, could have been better.
