No Hope

Perhaps this is how human beings will act in a post-apocalyptic world. The film portrays us as completely self centered, looking only to feed ourselves and our immediate families. We abuse others, take their property, pay the strongest bidder. Good old Darwin was right...right? This is so bleak as to be nearly unwatchable. Even in the core family the mother tries to appease and warm her children, but they have grown up entitled and so transitioning into survival mode is darn near impossible. The filmmaker uses lots of symbols and throws lots of roadblocks along the way. What exactly happened and what is going on away from the focused people? One thing I would take issue with is the use of grey, almost dark images throughout. I know that these are not happy times, but there were places where I was checking my DVD player to see if something had happened. Dark is dark. There's a reason for that word. When we can barely see what is going on, it becomes tedious. Finally, there seem to be no heroes here. The director and screenwriter obviously have a point that there is no point.
