Mischief (1985)
7/10
Mischief is about more than what the title implies, that's for sure!

The scene that I remember more than any other from my first viewing of this nearly 40 years ago on HBO during a late night weekend while my parents were asleep is the bed scene between Doug McKeon and Kelly Preston. As a teen myself at the time, it's both pretty sexy and funny even more so now. John Travolta was a really lucky man when he met and eventually married Ms. Preston, that's for sure! Anyway, now that I've watched this in its entirety online, I see it's about more than characters fooling around. The bad boy played by Chris Nash, for instance, has a musician father who had to leave a symphony band to take care of him after the mother died and her son kept getting into trouble. He's attracted to rich girl Catherine Mary Stewart but she has a jealous boyfriend who's not above challenging the bad boy to fights. I loved the friendship between McKeon's and Nash's characters especially Nash's attempts to make McKeon look cool which often ends in disaster. Besides Ms. Preston and Ms. Stewart, another good-looking babe that appeared here was Jami Gertz made to look dorky initially by wearing pigtails, glasses, and braces but, of course, she gets rid of all those near the end, that's for sure! Great small town, '50s era setting down to the popular music of the time playing as the score. This was a fine drama with good comedy touches. So on that note, I highly recommend Mischief.
