Harry Lockheart (Robert Downey Jr) is a small time thief and a big time loser with an even bigger mouth, and after a small toy store heist gone wrong finds himself running from the cops. To escape he hides within an acting audition, and they think he's doing some sort of bizarre method acting, so hire him for the role. The role in question requires him to play a detective, so the producers pair him up with Perry van Shrike (Val Kilmer), a real private detective, to get some experience. As you can probably imagine, it quickly goes south in the most hilarious way possible.
This film is great. Robert Downey Jr steals the show with his incredible dialogue and wit, that is delivered with razor precision... it's no wonder he was hired as Iron Man on the back of this. Val Kilmer is also awesome as Perry, and the 2 of them have such a great chemistry its a shame they didn't pair up more often. The plot is engaging, the action entertaining and I found myself laughing out loud fairly often... which is rare for me with more modern films. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and I highly recommend it!
