I remember watching Sledge Hammer! Back in the 1980s before having to record it, so I had to watch it whenever it popped up on TV. Anyway, David Rasche pretty much owned the character of San Francisco Police Department Inspector Sledge Hammer. Anyway, maybe I was a bit too young to appreciate all the satirical elements to Sledge Hammer! But I think it was a precursor or inspiration for Lethal Weapon which was released in 1987 and also Basic Instinct which was released in 1992 and featured a San Francisco cop-on-the-edge in a less satirical but still unrealistic way played by Michael Douglas init.
